Symptom Number  3: Has Unusual Reactions To Certain Taste, Smell & Sound

Parenting

For children diagnosed with autism, they can experience both hypersensitivity, or an over-responsiveness to certain stimuli, or hyposensitivity or under-responsiveness. When it comes to hypersensitivity, children may find certain smells, textures, sounds, lights, and tastes overwhelming. Because of this, they prefer sensory avoidance, which is basically an attempt to limit or stop such stimuli by either covering their ears from loud noises or unexpected sounds, or their eyes from bright lights, or even pulling away from physical touch or even avoid wearing particular types of clothing because they don’t like the way it feels on their skin.
