Symptom Number 5: Not Talking As Much As Other Children

Spectrum News

When it comes to children on the autism spectrum, they tend to have speech-related issues such as not responding to verbal cues or other people’s attempts to gain their attention. They may also fail or be slow in developing gestures, like pointing or showing something to others, or have other delays in their language development as well. With ASD, children tend to lack at understanding the usual social cues, like  during the usual social interaction that occurs between children. They may even use words that may seem odd or out of place, or maybe only have meaning for them when trying to communicate with others. For others, they may even be non-verbal, which according to Cochrane Library, equals around 25 to 30 percent of children with ASD that speak fewer than 30 words or don’t speak at all.
